The process begins with a Project Request Form identifying the need for a new document or a revision to an existing one.

A project manager coordinates the work
AMPP assigns a Document Project Manager to guide the project through the standards-development process.
03 · TASK GROUP
Subject-matter experts develop the draft
A volunteer task group contributes technical knowledge and prepares or revises the document. Representation from different stakeholder groups helps prevent one interest from dominating the work.
04 · BALLOT & REVIEW
The draft goes through formal review
Draft documents are balloted and comments are addressed according to the requirements of the standards program. Feedback can lead to revisions before the document advances.
05 · CONSENSUS
The document advances through the approved process
The goal is not unanimous agreement on every detail, but a balanced consensus process in which views are considered and technical objections are addressed under established procedures.

AMPP’s standards-development process is ANSI-accredited.
